Connecting
Asthma Care from the Clinic to the Community: A Symposium held on September 27, 2006 Sponsored by the Asthma Regional Council of New England In Partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Region I (New England) With additional support from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Region I (New England)
Public Health Departments from around the country are coordinating innovative programs for high-risk families with asthma. They realize that effective asthma management, for some patients, requires supportive services that go beyond the clinic setting and which include community partnerships and home-based interventions. The Goal of this Symposium was to help public health departments in the New England region lead the way in promoting effective asthma management, through expanding home-based clinical and environmental services, and by developing effective community partnerships and resources. The Symposium Presented:
The morning session focused on information-sharing; the afternoon session involved round table discussions, structured in working teams. The teams were organized by local or state health departments which brought together partner organizations wishing to work together to plan new and enhanced home-based asthma programs. A background paper was provided to the audience entitled Enhancing Asthma Management Using In-Home Environmental Interventions: A Review of Public Health Department Programs.
